After Office of Readings and Morning Prayers together, we leave the hermitage at 7am feeling rested and optimistic. Today we venture into new territory.

Yay! Wyoming! It’s our first time visiting this state! The terrain is varied and beautiful.
We get stuck behind two extra-wide-loads and three cars with flashing lights. Doug finally passes all five vehicles, but when we stop to see if we can (with the help of YouTube) figure out why our air conditioning isn’t cooling us anymore, the convoy sneaks past us again. We tail them on winding roads until we’re almost to Cody.

Hot and tired, we arrive in Cody about 3:20pm and opt for a meal at a local brewery during which my “hangry” husband watches his burger grow cold while he, via cell phone, sorts the details of exchanging a malfunctioning rental car with pretty much any fully functioning vehicle. Meanwhile, I try to make peace with the fact that I ordered food I’m too tired to eat. I just want to lie down. I am in awe of Doug who doesn’t stop until he gets the job done.

The 5pm Mass at St. Anthony of Padua serves as a reset. There’s nothing like receiving Jesus in the Eucharist to put things in proper perspective. We linger a little afterward and I snap this photo of the church.
Finally, Doug drops me off at our hotel room while he takes the Jeep to the Yellowstone Regional Airport here in Cody. He exchanges the fun black Grand Cherokee Jeep that has been serving us, for a modest grey Mazda. I drive a Mazda at home, so it’s familiar, and somehow it seems suitable.
I raise my eyes toward the mountains.
From whence shall come my help?
My help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to slip; or your guardian to sleep.
Behold, the guardian of Israel never slumbers nor sleeps.
The LORD is your guardian; the LORD is your shade at your right hand.
By day the sun will not strike you, nor the moon by night. The LORD will guard you from all evil; he will guard your soul.
The LORD will guard your coming and going
both now and forever. – Psalm 127
We’re hopeful for a peaceful night’s rest. Then, tomorrow, on to Yellowstone!
I just adore the way you write! God bless you for sharing ❤️
